Magic Fountain of Montjuïc: an icon brought back to life
Barcelona brings back one of its most emblematic spectacles: the Montjuïc fountains are flowing again, returning to the city one of those special moments where art, emotion and shared public space come together—simply a unique experience.
Located at the foot of Montjuïc hill, between the Palau Nacional, home to the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya), and Plaça d’Espanya, these fountains offer a unique experience where water, light and music blend in perfect harmony.
Visiting this space is much more than watching a show: it is about becoming part of a collective tradition that has moved generations of visitors and residents since 1929.

History and magic by Carles Buïgas
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc was created for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition, a key moment in the city’s urban transformation, located where the Four Columns by Josep Puig i Cadafalch once stood. Designed by engineer Carles Buïgas, the fountain amazed from the very beginning with its ability to combine technological innovation and aesthetic beauty.
Over time, this space has become one of Barcelona’s great symbols, continuing to inspire thanks to new choreographies, lighting and musical repertoires.
A free spectacle for all the senses
When night falls, the fountain transforms into an open-air stage. Jets of water dance to the rhythm of the music, while light displays create ever-changing compositions that captivate all who watch.
Each session is different. From classical pieces to film soundtracks and contemporary music, the show offers an accessible, free experience open to everyone. It is an ideal plan both for first-time visitors and for those wishing to rediscover the city at a more relaxed pace.
