It is especially known for its family tradition in the hotel business in Barcelona since 1826 and for its unique buffet open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which was created by its owner Pilar Vallet, wife of José María Malagarriga Miralbell.
Its urban architecture, together with the Versailles style of its rooms, will not leave you indifferent. It only has 19 “unique decorated” ones. All of them renovated, very comfortable and well equipped. Some with views of the magnificent and elegant Rambla de Catalunya, others with “Versailles” style lounges, marble fireplaces and tribunes overlooking the beautiful Rambla.

The origin of the Continental Palacete Hotel
This property was discovered and purchased by Pilar Vallet in 1998. On an ordinary visit to the dentist, while she was in the waiting room, she looked through La Vanguardia, the newspaper with the largest circulation in our city, where she discovered a full-page advertisement that said “palacete for sale.”
She immediately realized that it was a total dream… however she went for it. Once she visited the mansion, she could imagine the great potential to transform it into a unique and exclusive hotel on the Rambla de Catalunya.
And so the dream became true! After almost 4 years of gigantic efforts, renovation works and various administrative difficulties…, in 2002 the Continental Palacete Hotel was inaugurated, which today has become one of the best-known Monument Hotels in the city.
Relocation and historical background
The Hotel Continental Palacete building was originally built on Paseo de Gracia in 1863. With the creation of the Eixample del Pla Cerdá, the house prevented passage through Diputació Street and for this reason, in 1892, it was dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt in Rambla de Catalunya where it is currently located. In 2018 it was declared a Monument Hotel.
Original architecture and decoration
One of the most unique aspects of the Continental Palacete Hotel is its original architecture with coffered ceilings and rooms in pure Versailles style where we can find impressive frescoes that decorate the very high ceilings and from which spectacular chandeliers hang.
The family has baptized the lounges with names that recall the family’s historical and hotel heritage:
. The Continental Hall, in honor of the Hotel Continental Barcelona, ??located at La Rambla 138 and in operation since 1931
. The Florida Suite, remembering that José María Malagarriga Miralbell was de Managing Director of Hotel Florida on the top of Tibidabo mountain between 1965 and 1978
. The “Centenario” Hall and hallway, as a reminder of the hotel family tradition of more than 100 years.

Historical memories in the mahogany cabinet
When you visit the hotel, you will have the opportunity to discover objects, recognitions that are the legacy of an entire family dedicated to the hotel industry for more than a century: silver cutlery, bronze ashtrays, fine porcelain, hand-cut crystal glasses… All this with the initials “HC” or with the transcription of Hotel Continental.
This precious closet was donated by the Vallet Arnau family, to which the wife and widow of José María Malagarriga Miralbell belonged. It was purchased at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889.
Unique buffet open 24 hours
The Hotel Continental Palacete and also the Hotel Continental Barcelona have a 24/7 buffet, a unique drinks and varied gastronomic offer that is undoubtedly highly appreciated by guests.

Ubicado en el distrito de L’Eixample de Barcelona y a 5 minutos a pie de Plaza Catalunya, el Hotel Continental Palacete es sin duda uno de los hoteles más inolvidables que esta ciudad ofrece. Es conocido especialmente por su tradición familiar en el negocio hotelero en Barcelona desde 1826 y por su buffet único 24 abierto las 24 horas, los 7 días a la semana que fue creado por su propietaria Pilar Vallet, Vda de José María Malagarriga Miralbell.
Su arquitectura urbana, unida al estilo Versailles de sus salones, no le dejará indiferente. Tan sólo tiene 19 bonitas. Todas ellas renovadas, muy confortables y bien equipadas. El origen del Hotel Continental Palacete
Esta propiedad fue descubierta y comprada por Pilar Vallet en 1998. En una ordinaria visita al dentista, mientras estaba en la salita de espera, ojeó La Vanguardia, el periódico de mayor tirada de nuestra ciudad, allí fue donde descubrió un anuncio de página completa que rezaba “palacete en venta”.
Inmediatamente se dio cuenta de que se trataba de un sueño… y fue a por él. Una vez visitó la mansión, pudo imaginar el gran potencial para transformarla en un hotel único y exclusivo en plena Rambla de Catalunya.
Y así el sueño se convirtió en realidad. Después de casi 4 años de esfuerzos gigantes, obras de reforma y varias dificultades administrativas…, en 2002 se inauguró el Hotel Continental Palacete que hoy se ha convertido en uno de los Hoteles-Monumento más conocidos de la ciudad.
Reubicación y antecedentes históricos
El edifcio del Hotel Continental Palacete fue construido originalmente en Paseo de gracia en 1863. Con la creación del Eixample del Pla Cerdá, la casa impedia el paso por la calle Diputació y por ese motivo, en 1892, fue desmontada piedra a piedra y reconstruida en Rambla de Catalunya donde se encuentra actualmente. En 2018 fue declarado Hotel Monument.
Arquitectura y decoración originales
Uno de los aspectos más singulares del Hotel Continental Palacete es su arquitectura original con techos artesonados y salones al puro estilo Versailles en los que podemos encontrar frescos impresionantes que decoran los altísimos techos y de los cuales cuelgan espectaculares lámparas de araña.
La familia ha bautizado los salones con nombres que recuerdan su herencia histórica y hotelera de la familia:
- La Suite y Salón Continental, en honor al Hotel Continental Barcelona, situado en La Rambla 138 y en funcionamiento desde 1931
- La Suite y Salón Florida, recordando este hotel que regentó José María Malagarriga Miralbell entre 1965 y 1978
- El Salón y pasillo “Centenario”, como recordatorio de la tradición hotelera de más de 100 años.

Recuerdos históricos en el armario de caoba
Cuando visite el hotel, tendrá la oportunidad de descubrir utensilios, recuerdos, reconocimientos varios que son el legado de toda una familia dedicada por más de un siglo a la hotelería: cubiertos de plata, ceniceros de bronce, porcelana fina, copas de cristal talladas a mano… Todo ello con las iniciales “HC” o con la transcripción de Hotel Continental.
Este armario fue cedido por la familia Vallet Arnau, a la cual pertenecía la esposa y viuda de José María Malagarriga Miralbell. Fue comprado en la Exposición Universal de Paris en 1889.
Bufé único abierto 24 horas
El Hotel Continental Palacete y también el Hotel Continental Barcelona cuentan con un bufé 24/7, una oferta única de bebidas con una variada oferta gastronómica que sin duda es muy apreciada por la clientela.
A cualquier hora del día o de la noche, los huéspedes pueden disfrutar y disponer de esta oferta en la que encontrarán un delicioso helado y dulces “home made”, café de selección espectacular que sirve una de las mejores cafeteras del mundo “La Cimbali”, fruta fresca y variada, bollería y panes, así como una selección de platos y ensaladas.
Pilar Vallet de Malagarriga es la artífice de este bufé. Fruto de su larga experiencia y pasión por el arte culinario y, gracias a su creatividad, diseñó una serie de platos dispuestos en una exposición muy bien lograda: todo en nevera y servido en pequeñas cantidades, para evitar el despilfarro y garantizar la seguridad alimentaria.
Sin duda es un bufé único que resulta muy cómodo para los huéspedes. Además, ¡está siempre incluido en el precio de la habitación!
