Exclusive Interview: our Mother, an Honored Hotelier of Barcelona
Today, December 29th, our mother, Pilar Vallet Hernández, married to our father, José María Malagarriga Miralbell, celebrates her birthday!
To commemorate this, we are making public a video that was never published before. It is an interview I personally conducted with my mother, where she shares how she became a hotelier, how she managed to acquire the building that now houses the Continental Palacete, and her heartfelt message to our dear clients and team.
In this unreleased recording from 2010, she also explains in her own words how she got to this point and how she has embraced the world of hospitality, which she began to love from a young age, alongside her husband.
My brother José María and I want to dedicate this post to publicly express our gratitude for her effort, perseverance, and courage in carrying forward the Hotel Continental after the early and unexpected passing of our beloved father in 1983.
Despite the hardships this brought, including the fact that in 1983 Spain was still a developing country and tourism in Barcelona, as in other major cities around the world, had yet to become the powerful economic engine and driver of progress that it is today for our city.
With great enthusiasm and vision, our mother embarked on the adventure of the Hotel Continental Palacete, which opened in 2002 after nearly four years of construction and challenges we had to overcome.
Today, we want to thank her for making it this far, for not only preserving the legacy of our father and his family but also expanding, renewing, and transforming it into what the Hotel Continental Barcelona and the Hotel Continental Palacete are today.
We think today is the perfect day to share it.
