Barcelona in august: charming gardens near our hotels
Barcelona hides more than 140 parks and gardens that bring life, open spaces, and a pause to the city’s urban rhythm. From tucked-away corners to large green expanses, these places act as true lungs for many of the city’s neighborhoods. In summer, and especially in August, they become ideal refuges to enjoy nature, history, and tranquility without leaving the city center. That is why, from Hotel Continental Barcelona and Hotel Continental Palacete, we invite you to rediscover some of Barcelona’s most beautiful and beloved gardens, all within walking distance or a short ride away.

7. Hivernacle of Ciutadella Park

Although it has been out of use several times throughout its history, the Ciutadella greenhouse has had many lively periods: canary bird exhibitions, farm animal and mushroom shows, a bar-restaurant in the 1990s, and even concerts with stands inside. At the end of 2023, it was restored following the original 1888 model.
When you visit, look up to admire the facade’s details: floral and plant motifs created by Catalan modernist designer Alexander Riqué. In its two halls —the Picasso and the Magnòlies— you will find remarkable species, such as a papaya tree, pineapples that were uncommon in shops at the time, or the striking Alocasia, with leaves that can grow up to 5 meters tall.
- Address: Passeig dels Til·lers, s/n, 08003 Barcelona.
- How to get there: From Hotel Continental Barcelona, a 15-minute walk along La Rambla and Passeig de Colom; from Hotel Continental Palacete, metro (L4, Ciutadella–Vila Olímpica stop) or a 25-minute walk through the Eixample and Born neighborhoods.
