Hotel Continental testimonio de la \u00e9poca dorada de los hoteles en la cuidad y de la historia<\/h2>\n

El Hotel Continental, situado en La Rambla 138, delante de la Fuente de Canaletas, ha sido testigo de buena parte de la historia de la ciudad desde finales del siglo XIX<\/p>\n

La \u00e9poca dorada de los grandes hoteles de Barcelona<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Transcribimos aqu\u00ed el texto publicado en la p\u00e1gina web de Betev\u00e9 y desde aqu\u00ed queremos agradecer que haya dedicado un programa especial dedicado a los hoteles.<\/p>\n

Barcelona es una ciudad de hoteles. Hace m\u00e1s de un siglo y medio que se empezaron a construir establecimientos para hu\u00e9spedes tal como los conocemos hoy, superando los hostales y los mesones de \u00e9pocas anteriores. Los grandes hoteles surgieron para acoger los forasteros que ven\u00edan a Barcelona para asistir a los grandes eventos que se celebraban o, simplemente, disfrutar del ambiente y las terrazas de los caf\u00e9s de las Ramblas.<\/p>\n

Hoy, algunos de estos hoteles hist\u00f3ricos de Barcelona han desaparecido; otros, siguen activos, como es el caso del Hotel Continental. Aqu\u00ed<\/a> puedes descubrir la historia de algunos de los hoteles m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1ticos de la ciudad.<\/p>\n

El Hotel Continental testigo de la historia hasta hoy <\/strong><\/h2>\n

La historia del Continental se remonta a finales del siglo XIX, cuando era un gran hotel y restaurante. En 1931, el abuelo del propietario actual, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Malagarriga, compr\u00f3 el nombre y alquil\u00f3 el edificio de la Rambla, 140. En 1952, con motivo del Congreso Eucar\u00edstico, se hizo una ampliaci\u00f3n y se cogieron dos plantas m\u00e1s del edificio de al lado, donde est\u00e1 ahora. El hotel fue all\u00ed hasta 1974.<\/p>\n

Hasta el 2015, el Continental era el \u00fanico de la ciudad en aparecer ininterrumpidamente en la Gu\u00eda Michelin desde su creaci\u00f3n en 1910.<\/p>\n

Un hotel innovador desde siempre! <\/strong><\/h2>\n

El Continental era muy innovador. En 1932 abri\u00f3 el bar Autom\u00e1tico, que ten\u00eda una m\u00e1quina de venta autom\u00e1tica sin personal. Fue de los primeros en tener una sala con televisor. Tambi\u00e9n dispon\u00eda de aire acondicionado.<\/p>\n

Orwell, hu\u00e9sped ilustre del Continental<\/strong><\/p>\n

A lo largo de su historia, el Continental ha recibido grandes personalidades. Se estuvo el director de orquesta Herbert von Karajan, Mach\u00edn, Helenio Herrera o el escritor George Orwell, 1937. En realidad, quien estaba en el Continental era la mujer de Orwell,<\/a> mientras \u00e9l luchaba al frente de Arag\u00f3n junto a la Rep\u00fablica durante la Guerra Civil.<\/p>\n

Pero cuando Orwell fue herido, lo llevaron a Barcelona, ??en el Continental, a curarse. Aqu\u00ed escribi\u00f3 una parte de su obra, ‘Homenaje a Catalu\u00f1a’. En sus p\u00e1ginas menciona el hotel y sus paseos por la ciudad. Hoy, el hotel tiene una sala dedicada a George Orwell.<\/p>\n

El presidente de la India, Nehru, y su hija, Indira Ghandi, visitaron Barcelona aquellos d\u00edas y se pasaron por Continental que ver Orwell.<\/p>\n

El asalto al Banco Central<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n

En mayo de 1981, tuvo lugar el asalto al Banco Central, situado en la plaza de Catalu\u00f1a. Cuando la polic\u00eda entr\u00f3 en el banco, los rehenes y los atracadores salieron. Cinco de los delincuentes se refugiaron en el Continental. Pidieron a la persona de recepci\u00f3n para los ba\u00f1os y entraron. Mientras, la trabajadora llam\u00f3 a la polic\u00eda para avisar que hab\u00edan entrado cinco personas sin identificar. La polic\u00eda apareci\u00f3 enseguida y se los llev\u00f3. A todos menos a uno, que estuvo toda la noche escondido en la habitaci\u00f3n de los aspiradores. Al d\u00eda siguiente, la madre del propietario actual se lo encontr\u00f3, pero el atracador huy\u00f3 y es el \u00fanico al que no se ha encontrado nunca m\u00e1s. Ese mismo d\u00eda, la mujer se encontr\u00f3 300.000 pesetas bajo una cama. Fue la parte de las 600.000 pesetas del robo que se recuperaron.<\/p>\n

Nuevos retos hoy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hotel Continental se ha adaptado siempre a los vaivenes de la historia, hoy tambi\u00e9n.
