Discover contemporary creativity, literary imagination and avant-garde dialogue through three unique cultural experiences

Barcelona is one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural capitals, where each season contemporary and modern art offer new perspectives, connections and experiences. If you are staying at Hotel Continental Barcelona or Hotel Continental Palacete, you can easily plan an itinerary that combines history, art and visual sensitivity across three cultural spaces that are essential to the city.

Below, we present three outstanding temporary exhibitions open this spring, with insights into why they are unique and all the practical information you need to plan your visit and make the most of the experience.

Poetry has just begun. 50 años de la Miró (Poetry Has Just Begun. 50 Years of Miró) — Fundació Joan Miró

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Fundació Joan Miró presents “Poetry has just begun. 50 años de la Miró (Poetry Has Just Begun. 50 Years of Miró),” a temporary exhibition that revisits the history and mission of this emblematic institution. The exhibition traces half a century of artistic thinking and commitment to contemporary creation, highlighting how visual poetry and an experimental approach have defined the spirit of the foundation since its opening.

More than a retrospective exhibition, this show proposes a conversation between past and present, underlining how the foundation has been a space for experimentation, discovery and debate. Each gallery becomes a chapter in a broader narrative about creative freedom, innovation and the relationship between art and its social context. It is an opportunity to understand not only Miró’s own evolution, but also how a museum can influence both the local and international art scene.

Ubú pintor. Alfred Jarry y las artes (Ubu the Painter. Alfred Jarry and the Arts) — Museu Picasso Barcelona

The exhibition “Ubú pintor. Alfred Jarry y las artes (Ubu the Painter. Alfred Jarry and the Arts)” explores the figure of Alfred Jarry, writer and creator of Ubu Roi, and his influence on modern and contemporary art. Beyond literature, the exhibition presents drawings, graphic devices, publications and works by highly influential artists who engaged with Jarry’s ideas, such as Paul Gauguin, Henri Rousseau, Picasso, William Kentridge or Max Ernst.

Jarry’s influence, as a precursor of the theatre of the absurd and a bridge between avant-garde movements such as Dadaism and Surrealism, is present in multiple artistic currents of the twentieth century. This exhibition offers the opportunity to understand how an apparently marginal figure transformed the perception of art and visual narrative, connecting literary and visual ideas in a journey that invites visitors to question the traditional meaning of the work of art.

Rodoreda, un bosque (Rodoreda, a Forest) — Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB)

The exhibition “Rodoreda, un bosque (Rodoreda, a Forest)” offers a deep immersion into the imaginative universe of Mercè Rodoreda, one of the most powerful literary voices of the twentieth century. Far beyond a simple biographical display, this proposal presents Rodoreda’s work as a symbolic landscape in which themes such as exile, memory, war and transformation unfold like branches, roots and treetops in a metaphorical forest. The exhibition places her writing in dialogue with visual artworks, audiovisual pieces and original documents that connect literature and contemporary visual art, inviting visitors to walk through an exhibition space conceived as a living organism.

Visiting this exhibition means entering the complexity of an author who has inspired generations and experiencing how narrative can become a symbolic landscape. The exhibition invites you to explore how Rodoreda translates human experiences — from uprooting to emotional survival — into visual and sensory forms. More than a literary reading, it is an experience that stimulates the imagination and encourages reflection on the power of storytelling beyond words.
