Hotel Continental Palacete, a bit of history
The Malagarriga family has a tradition of almost 200 years dedicated to hospitality sector. In 2026 it will celebrate its bicentennial. Currently, since 1931, it has been the owner of Hotel Continental Barcelona on the famous Ramblas in Barcelona and, in 1999, Pilar Vallet, the widow of José María Malagarriga Miralbell, acquired the building that now houses the Hotel Continental Palacete, opened in 2002.
It was palace built in 1863 named Casa de Fabra and, originally had been placed in Paseo de Gracia street. When this avenue became more crowded, the owners and that time dismantled the building stone by stone and moved it to the distinguished Rambla de Catalunya.
The rehabilitation was a difficult task because it was necessary to conserve and restore the wonderful coffered ceilings, its frescoes painted on the ceilings, the decorative stuccoes of the different rooms. Therefore, the works became a real challenge to achieve the result that now has: a unique hotel where you can rest and enjoy. Where to find a buffet open 24 hours (always included in the price of the room) thinking about guests’ comfort and pocket.

Hotel Continental Palacete, a work of art
Continental Palacete Monument in Barcelona. In 1863 the building that houses the Hotel Continental Palacete was built. The time of Catalan Modernism birth. The art style that develops new architectural concepts based on nature. In the Continental Palacete we can find them in the stucco with floral shapes at the “Sol” and “Tribuna” rooms and in the coffered ceiling of the Centenary hall.
In addition, in the hotel there are two spectacular pieces that come from the family legacy. A spectacular chandelier that crowns the Centenarian Hall, with dimensions of one and a half meters diameter by two meters high, and a 3 meter high Modernist mahogany wardrobe purchased by the Vallet Arnau family at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889.

Hotel Continental Palacete es Monumento en Barcelona. El Hotel Continental Palacete ha sido reconocido como “Hotel Monumento” por el Comité Ejecutivo del Gremio de Hoteles de Barcelona el 13 de noviembre de 2018.
Una distinción que refleja la belleza y singularidad de esta obra arquitectónica que alberga salones al más puro estilo Versalles de la época de Luis XIV. Un lugar elegido por modelos y firmas de gran prestigio para crear sus reportajes, presentaciones y anuncios.
“Estamos muy agradecidos por este reconocimiento del GHB. Me gustaría dedicarlo a mi padre que falleció en 1983, de quien hemos heredado el amor y la tradición familiar en la hostelería y a mi madre que, con su gran esfuerzo y valentía, compró este edificio y lo rehabilitó durante más de 3 años para lograr un hotel totalmente singular que quiere ser un oasis de calma y disfrute en plena Rambla Catalunya, centro más elegante de Barcelona”, José María Malagarriga Vallet, Director y Propietario.
Hotel Continental Palacete, un poco de historia
La familia Malagarriga tiene una tradición de casi 200 años dedicados a la hostelería. En 2026 celebrará su bicentenario. Actualmente es propietaria desde 1931 del Hotel Continental Barcelona en las famosas Ramblas de Barcelona y, en 1999, Pilar Vallet, viuda de José María Malagarriga Miralbell, compró el edificio que ahora alberga el Hotel Continental Palacete, inaugurado en 2002.
Se trataba de un palacete de 1863 denominado Casa de Fabra, y que originalmente había sido construido en el Paseo de Gracia. Cuando esta avenida pasó a ser más transitada, los entonces propietarios desmontaron la edificación piedra a piedra y la trasladaron a la distinguida Rambla de Catalunya.
La rehabilitación fue una tarea difícil porque era preciso conservar y restaurar los maravillosos techos artesonados, sus frescos pintados en los techos, los estucados decorativos de las diferentes estancias, por todo ello se ha merecido ser distinguido como Hotel Continental Palacete Monumento en Barcelona . Por ello, los trabajos se convirtieron en un auténtico reto para conseguir el resultado que ahora tiene: un hotel único donde descansar y disfrutar. Donde encontrar un bufe abierto las 24 horas, siempre incluido en el precio de la habitación, para la comodidad y el bolsillo de sus huéspedes.

Hotel Continental Palacete, una obra de arte
Hotel Continental Palacete es Monumento en Barcelona. 1863 fue el año en que se construyó el edificio que alberga el Hotel Continental Palacete. Época del nacimiento del Modernismo catalán que desarrolló nuevos conceptos arquitectónicos basados en la naturaleza. En el Continental Palacete podemos encontrarlos en los estucados con formas florales de las habitaciones “Sol” y “Tribuna” y en el techo artesonado del pasillo centenario.
Además, en el hotel se encuentran dos piezas espectaculares que provienen del legado familiar. Una lámpara de araña espectacular que corona el salón Centenario, con unas dimensiones de metro y medio de diámetro por dos metros de alto y un armario de 3 metros de altura modernista y de caoba adquirido por la familia Vallet Arnau en la Exposición Universal de París de 1889.
